Questions people actually ask
Do I need to convert HEVC first?
Not if your iPhone records in Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible — that's already H.264 and drops straight in. The default High Efficiency setting saves HEVC, which usually decodes fine too, but on some device/browser combinations it can't — you'll see a codec error, or occasionally just the audio fails and gets dropped automatically. If a clip won't decode, switch to Most Compatible (or re-export it as H.264 MP4) and try again.
Will it downscale my 4K video?
Only when the target size makes 4K pointless — a small file can't feed that many pixels, so stepping down to 1080p or 720p actually looks sharper at the chosen size.
